How Our Moms Make Us Better

“All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” ~Abraham Lincoln

My mom is certainly an angel mother that Abraham Lincoln talked about. She raised five boys, helped my dad run their jewelry business and volunteered throughout our community.

Still, at 79 years old, she provides daily hospice care, Healing Touch therapy and companionship in the “No One Dies Alone” program at our local hospital. She is a mixture of compassion and generosity with a healthy dose of  independence.

My mom has had (and continues to have) a significant impact on how I do my work at Netgain, and I know I’m not alone. Netgain is full of team members whose lives have been changed because of their mothers and Netgainers who are changing lives because of the loving mothers they are to their children.

A few members of our team shared what their mothers taught them, what traits they inherited and how their mothers make them better Netgainers.

Finance and Admin Team Lead

What is your favorite thing about your mom?
Her heart is a perfect mix of caring and firmness. She would give you the shirt off her back and bake you some cookies, but you better follow the house rules.

What have you learned from your mom that you incorporate into your job at Netgain?
I try to be more calm and rational like my mom when I’m working on something difficult or making a difficult decision. I’m still trying to learn her prioritizing strengths. I have no clue how she ran a daycare during the day (at home), did all the laundry, cleaned the house and made a homemade meal every night. She’s incredible!

What personality traits of yours come from your mom?
I like to think that I inherited her heart. I’m caring, however, rules are rules, and I enjoy following them. I want to inherit her “mom look”. She can still give me (anyone “that” look) and everyone in the room will stop and listen.

VP of Client Services

What is your favorite thing about your Mom?
Her perseverance during tough times.

What have you learned from your mom that you incorporate into your work at Netgain?
She taught me to have patience with people who are different than me and to listen to them before making judgments and don’t ask them to do something I would not. Be a good example.

What personality traits of yours come from your mom?
Speaking my mind when I see injustice, be my best and learn from my mistakes, ask for forgiveness, and my all-time favorite “two wrongs don’t make a right!”

Account Manager

What is your favorite thing about your Mom?
Her caring nature.

What have you learned from your mom that you incorporate into your work at Netgain?
My mom taught me how to work hard and have a strong work ethic and that comes into play every day at Netgain. If you want something, you have to work for it.

She also taught me to be proud of what I do and to do it well. I take a lot of pride in my role and responsibilities at Netgain and the relationships I have with my clients. Our impact at Netgain trickles down all the way  to the patient care and satisfaction – and that’s something I take pride in.

What personality traits of yours come from your mom?
My mom and I are both reliable, caring, independent and shy. I’m very thankful for these traits – they help make me who I am today as a wife, mom, daughter and employee.

We’re so thankful for the positive influence these moms had on our Netgainers and we’re so proud of the great mothers that these Netgainers are.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers who make sacrifices every day to pour into their children. It matters. They grow into people who are making a difference in their workplaces and community.
