Why We Really Wear Jeans on Fridays

Learning to regulate temperature. Learning to breathe. Learning how to eat. Most people take it for granted that their newborn baby can do these things on their own but Cory Johnson, a support analyst at Netgain, had to watch his son learn these things on his own after being born 10 weeks early.

It’s the experience of the days following his son Owen’s birth that led Cory to become an advocate forMarch of Dimes and led the charity to be selected as one of Netgain’s Casual for a Cause programs.

“My wife and I are fortunate that Owen is so healthy after his premature birth but sadly, many families are not so lucky. Getting the strongest start possible is so important and I’m proud to have been able to support this effort by raising funds with the help of my team members,” Johnson said.

For over six years, Netgain employees have been supporting causes like the March of Dimes through the Casual for a Cause program. Each quarter, Netgain employees have the opportunity to nominate a charity they believe in and employees who contribute at least $25 for the chosen charity can wear jeans every Friday. Netgain matches the employee donations to increase proceeds to the charity and encourage employee participation.

Since the program’s inception in 2010, Netgain has raised over $23,000 for employee-chosen charities including Anna Marie’s Alliance, Quiet Oaks Hospice, Wounded Warrior Project and The Angel Foundation.

“It’s touching to see how many of our employees lead and donate to Casual for a Cause. We have a compassionate and generous team at Netgain, and we’re ready to support the charitable causes our employees support,” said Scott Warzecha, Netgain founder and president.

For the next quarter beginning Oct. 1, Netgain will put a spotlight on the American Red Cross and raise support for it. Dan Salfer, System Administrator at Netgain, nominated the American Red Cross. “There’s a constant need for blood donors and what better way to get participation then to have an onsite blood drive. I appreciate having an employer who encourages participation in causes and coworkers that willingly give their time or donation,” Salfer said. This time, employees will be given the opportunity to donate blood during business hours or donate $25 to the American Red Cross (or both).

The Casual for a Cause Program brings attention to many worthy causes that Netgain employees believe in while also raising much-needed funds. Join us in our next quarter’s effort of donating blood to the American Red Cross by scheduling a blood donation at a location near you.
